NITRA celebrate another impressive win
After another impressive straight-sets home victory over Posojilnica AICH/DOB of Austria (31-29, 25-22, 25-21) on Friday, Slovakia’s Bystrina SPU NITRA currently top the charts of the 2016-2017 mens MEVZA Cup on nine points. On Wednesday the hosts easily cruised to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-13) win over Mladost ZAGREB.
Croatia’s vice-champions are next in the standing on seven points followed by Posojilnica AICH/DOB and Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK, both on six points. Austria’s reigning national champions have not dropped a set in the two matches they have contested so far.
Only one match took place before Christmas in the womens MEVZA Cup. In a derby starring two teams from the Slovakian capital city Slavia EU BRATISLAVA claimed a straight-sets victory (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) over 1. BVK BRATISLAVA.
The MEVZA Cup will resume next week with matches in Békéscsaba, Olomouc (women) and Myjava (men).
